Character: Ravus Nox Fleuret
Age: 28
Canon: Final Fantasy XV
Canon Point: chapter 13-ish, prior to things getting ugly before the Emperor
Background: I do not serve, I command.
Personality:
he who dances with the devil.
RAVUS NOX FLEURET
A High Commander of the Imperial Army.
To the majority and the public, he is the High Commander of the Imperial Army of Niflheim and there is certainly an aura about him. He is imposing, strict, thinks so very highly of himself, and has a way with words in which they are as sharp as knives and come off as demeaning to most everyone. Very few are spared from this sort of attitude of his, not one to shy away from telling the so-called chosen king, Noctis, how he harbors little to no faith in him, his resentment towards King Regis and the Lucians for having abandoned Tenebrae and him in their time of need... even his sister, Lunafreya, can be caught on the receiving end of his harsh words, telling her of how foolish she is for believing in one as unworthy as Noctis (in his eyes), how reckless she is for throwing her life away for that boy, and even outright refusing to continue with her task in seeing the ring to Noctis as she is dying and knows that her time is limited. more about this later. Literally, next to no one is safe from his sharp tongue and he really doesn't care what you have to think about it; he's not afraid to let you know he doesn't like you.
As he says to Noctis during one of their little exchanges with one another: I do not serve, I command and that is exactly how he carries himself as High Commander. He is prideful, a man of duty, one whom, should you push to the point of anger, will not think twice about sticking you on the other end of Alba Leonis. He does not answer to those he deems unworthy of him nor does he hand respect out so easily either. To him? You must earn it and it is then and only then, will he give it to you. Something which, if one looks carefully enough, is what he had been doing with Noctis who he deemed so unworthy: wanting to see the chosen king prove himself. Of course, on that same note, he is just as capable of losing respect for others such as he did with King Regis when he felt betrayed by the King, referring to him as a coward on more than one occasion.
Part of the reason why he rose so high within the ranks of the army, let alone joined it to begin with, had to do with an anger and resentment which he holds for King Regis and the Lucians which, yes, can and has extended to Noctis as well. To have felt betrayed and abandoned by a King who he had looked to in high regards and pleaded for help when Niflheim invaded, it's left him bitter and jaded and obsessed with obtaining power by whatever means necessary to seek revenge for what had been taken from him on that day when he was sixteen years old. This? This shows that he is quite capable of holding onto a grudge for years at a time, even one which might be wrong and harmful. You could say he's a bit stubborn with an idea once it's stuck in his head and can refuse, at times, to listen to reason, such as Lunafreya telling him that it was Niflheim who killed their mother, not King Regis. On the other hand, it is also his conviction in protecting his sister, Lunafreya, the Oracle which spearheads his obsession and lust for power and if dancing with the devil is able to grant him that power, to no longer be weak and fail those he loves, then he will.
However, the things he does for the Empire are not what would be considered his personal choice and rather, they are done out of necessity and the more realistic approach when you look at the power that Niflheim has over Tenebrae. What exactly could a sixteen year old who just witnessed his mother's death do? Take on the empire himself? Hardly. This shows that Ravus is more of a realist than he is an idealist as there is always reason and logic behind the decisions he makes, namely in protecting his sister, even if they are ones he does not always want to make; for him it is always duty over indulgence.
Now to touch on that pride and arrogance of his... while it's good to have confidence in ones abilities and Ravus is rather smart and a tactician in battle, it's his inability to let go of that pride, to seek out help from others and not feel as though everything solely rests on his shoulders that can be considered his downfall at times. It's his duty, no one else's and thus, something that he himself needs to do. He's basically that guy who, when lost, will refuse to ask for directions and just figure it out himself... even if it takes him hours.
Also, while his frustration and anger (depending on the circumstance of the situation) have the capability to become part of his strength, especially when in battle, they also have the ability to cloud his judgment in the moment and, because of such, he is liable to make mistakes... such as nearly killing Noctis when he finds his sister dead while the chosen king lives or, again with Noctis, nearly choking him out when he claims Ravus is an Imperial rat hunting his own sister. This anger of his comes from years of pain that he has refused to let go and so when he does blow up, it's rather shocking and fierce and he certainly becomes a force to be reckoned with.
A former prince and older brother.
As the former prince of Tenebrae, Ravus is rather refined, if you will. His speech is along the lines of Shakespearean and you will never, not even once, hear him use slang or butcher language with informal speech, tone, or even profanity. He likes to keep it classy and perhaps that ties in a little with the whole prideful and arrogant thing. Or maybe that stems from his way of speech. Either way, if you're looking for someone to be the life of the party, Ravus Nox Fleuret is certainly not your go-to man there. can you imagine him screaming that he is the KING OF FISHING?? me either. Now, that's not to say that he's incapable of things such as, you know, a smile or even being a little more lighthearted. These moments are simply reserved for those he is close with and that really only extends to Lunafreya to be honest.
As the older brother, Ravus carries the typical "protective big brother" trope surrounding his younger sister, Lunafreya, and this shows in a number of ways which are done in very typical "Ravus fashion", if you will.
Lunafreya is everything to him and could even be considered his purity, if you'd like, within this world. She is his younger sister, the Oracle which means to inspire the chosen king, and all he has left in terms of family and loved ones. Despite the years in captive with Niflheim and wedge that has come between them at times due to the frustration that Ravus feels with how stubborn and foolish she is concerning her devotion to Noctis, Lunafreya is typically the only one to ever see a softer, more sympathetic, and more compassionate side to him. His words may still be harsh, as Ravus is not one to show much emotion or coddle people, but it's his actions which always speak louder than his words for as much as Lunafreya means to inspire the chosen king, Ravus means to support the Oracle, his little sister, and he does so with touches and glances and reassurance through soft smiles. His care comes from a deeply wounded heart filled with an insecurity that he might not be enough to save his sister, save Tenebrae, and fail as he did his mother and their home before. He is a man that is willing to do whatever it takes, dance with devils, if it means to free his sister of the price attached to her calling despite knowing that she will do what she must just as much as he will with his own calling.
This... is a conflict for him. Noctis, initially, is one he deems unworthy of his sister's love and devotion and all that she does for him as the Oracle. To see his sister slowly dying every time she aids the chosen king and to know that he's oblivious to the sacrifices that she makes for him... it's beyond maddening to Ravus and a thing that he and his sister struggle to see eye-to-eye on. But as a man of duty and as prideful as he is, he knows that the path which his sister walks is hers alone, much as the path he walks is his. When it comes to duty, he hardly ever intervenes, though can be tempted to at times, typically when emotion is roused.
His feelings regarding Noctis are... complicated, to say the least. Honestly, the Lucians as a whole are a sore spot for Ravus. To him, they took from him his mother, his home, and eventually, his sister. With Tenebrae seized by Niflheim and pleas to a fleeing King Regis to help them ignored, Ravus has felt that Lucis cannot be trusted nor relied on, having felt abandoned by its coward King. With that, there is a bitterness there that he holds just for Noctis. The ring chose Noctis... not him. His sister devotes and throws her life away for Noctis who is none the wiser of such things... he must watch her suffer. His anger is understandable given everything that he does to try and save his sister and for some punk kid that he isn't so sure is the true king to be so oblivious and not understand such importance... well it just frustrates him to no end at times. He does, however, come to have a slight change of heart concerning Noctis and accepts not only the love his sister has for him, but that he is, in fact, the true king as well.
A man with hopes and dreams.
Perhaps one of the tragic parts of Ravus is the fact that he is a man who is doing what he must, rather than what he wants. In an ideal world, sins of the past would have been forgiven and he might have supported Noctis from the start rather than push against him and pull his sister back as a means to protect her.
But, his trust and faith in Lucian Kings has been shaken because of tragedy that struck when he was younger. Thankfully, he finds that trust and faith again and places them in Noctis, standing by his side in his own ways and claiming that he is the true king and even his king, who he is willing to protect and die for. These are not the words, hopes, or actions of a man who wishes to see an eternal night cover their star, his kingdom. These are the words, hopes, and actions of one who is blood of the Oracle, has lost everything dear to him, and is willing to do what he must, no matter the cost.
Ravus, at his core, is a wounded man with scars that run deep across his heart. Where he was once open and welcoming, he is now cold and hardened. It's the fear of not being strong enough and left powerless again that both drives and hinders him. Where Noctis has the support of his friends, Ravus pushes everyone away, sometimes even his sister. He can't fail, he must do everything that he can to protect his sister for she's all that he has left. His intentions have always been ones which he had believed to be right, wanting to save his sister and their kingdom, regardless of the consequences that might befall him. The pain which he feels when he holds a deceased Lunafreya in his arms is not one of a man who cares naught look at me borrowing his words of her death, but of a man who cares deeply and is heartbroken at the fact that he has failed the one person he has done everything for.
Because he has never wanted their star to be plunged into eternal night, has never sided with Ardyn or even the Empire themselves. All he's ever wanted was for his sister to be free, to be happy, to live her life as she should have always been allowed to. It's just that his way of doing things is so contentious to most. But when he is able to finally let go of the anger that he has been holding onto so tightly over the years, clouding his vision from his true calling, he is then able to return to his familial duty as blood of the Oracle and do the very thing that he had lost sight of due to his false heroism: to help others.
Abilities:
⚡ Ravus is an expert swordsman and a tactician when it comes to battle, also swift and calculated with his movements. Despite being a member of the Oracle's bloodline, Ravus possesses no gifts or abilities that his sister has as Oracles can only be women.
⚡ Alba Leonis
"Saber bestowed upon imperial officers of distinction by the emperor himself. Boasts a blade sharp enough to rend any foe asunder."
⚡ Last Rites
"A technique in which he empowers his artificial arm with electricity and releases a Thunder-elemental AOE attack."
⚡ Magitek Arm
Ravus' left arm is a magitek prosthetic that is able to greatly enhance his strength as well as conduct and control electricity, channeling through both his arm and his sword.
Alignment:
Given his canon point in which he's coming from, Piphron best suits Ravus as he has come to gently trust Noctis as King and set out to assist him. A far cry from when he had seen the young prince as nothing more than some punk kid who didn't truly understand the weight of his destiny nevermind deemed unworthy of not only the title of King, but of Lunafreya's love as well. Also, he's never trusted Ardyn or the Empire, so I mean, there's that, too.
Other:
He lost his left arm back in Final Fantasy XV: Kingsglaive with being full of himself in front of the old kings and now has a magitek prosthetic arm for being a goof so. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Questions:
At the time in which he's being taken from in canon, Ravus has Sword of the Father on him and while I'm aware Noctis currently has this on him within emp, I'm wondering if two of them are able to exist within emp. It's honestly not a big deal if the sword can't come with Ravus since he can't use its power, he's merely safeguarding it for Noctis. But, just thought I would ask and see what the team says! o/
